What about hardware support?
At Digital IP, we don’t believe in our customers spending money unnecessarily.
With that in mind, we don’t believe that extended hardware cover for Desktop PCs
makes sense. Why? With the low cost of PC hardware and the rapid pace of change,
a 4 year old faulty PC will be much better replaced by a new, faster machine. If
for example you have 20 PCs, one year of post-warranty support could cost as
much as £1,400. Digital IP recommend that all PC hardware is purchased with a 3
year warranty – as standard all models suggested by DIP include a 3 year
warranty.
It is a different story for servers, network hardware and storage systems. These
mission critical components of your IT infrastructure need to be protected.
Digital IP supplied servers include a 3 year warranty as standard. DIP strongly
suggest that extended hardware warranties are provided by the equipment
manufacturer for all production servers and storage systems.
Note, that it is also important to evaluate hardware support levels – we may
provide an engineer on-site within 4 hours of a critical problem, but if the
hardware vendor confirms a fault but has a next day warranty then that will
determine the quickest fix.
